How it all started...
We were founded in 1912 by Hugh Davis Ragland, a retired Civil War chaplain, who saw a local need for Sunday school and prayer meetings in his home of Goochland. With great help from local Sandy Hook residents, the church was dedicated and the cornerstone laid for the first building in June, 1912.
"We have a HERITAGE that undergirds us; a church founded and perpetuated by godly men; we have been blessed by God with beautiful and abundant facilities; we now need dedicated men and women to move forward in the work of the Lord that was begun in 1912 by a humble man in a humble place who had a vision for this community.”

Our community...
From the beginning, Ragland has called Goochland County its home. We strive to serve our local community as well as neighboring areas extending beyond our county borders. As a small locality, Goochland thrives on its close-knit community, which is clearly seen within the walls of our church.
Ragland endeavors to do all it can to reach out not only to church members but members of the community at large. We provide community outreach opportunities such as weekly playgroup for children and their parents, annual summer Vacation Bible School, AWANA Club for school aged children throughout the school year, and numerous activities for teenagers and adults like Bible studies, men and women’s retreats, and other activities. Additionally, we strive to serve those in need in our own backyard through the Sandwich and Brown Bag Ministries that provide food to local families.

Where we are headed...
At Ragland, we strive to be intentional about our faith. We intentionally pray, evangelize, and make disciples in an attempt to honor the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that we have an obligation to proclaim the Gospel from Goochland County to the ends of the earth.
